This week we move into "More Adventures of the SuperKids". Your child will no longer need the Mystery Reader Red Square. Where the first semester was similar to kindergarten, this semester the program is set up more like second grade. Superkids is making first grade a true transition year!
I am sending the spelling lists home for all of the first nine weeks. Please put these in your E Learning folder. Having the lists on hand will help simplify things in case of an E Learning day. These are coming home today, Tuesday, January 7.
Math will find us making groups of ten to add. Please see the Family Letter for Instruction Lesson 14 to explain what this means and how we will do it. The concept being it is easier to add two numbers when one is a ten.
Do you know the story of Flat Stanley? We will be reading Stanley's story in class. This will lead us to create our own flat selves and, with your help, send us on an adventure. Monday, January 6, I will send home a letter to you with the information you need and so you can plan. Please return the needed envelope by Wednesday, January 8th, along with a stamp or 50 cents, so we can mail our letters on Friday. If you have any questions please contact me.

Please go on to School Speak and view your child's report card for the 2nd nine weeks and then provide your electronic signature. Thank you! Your child may work on any of the online programs we use for E Learning. They do not have to be just for E Learning. I strongly encourage I Ready for math practice with the skills we are working on in class and skills they need to continue to work on. If they happen to forget their reading book they may locate it on the Superkids Website and still complete their reading assignment. Papers went home today about our P.E. swim program. Students will need a swimsuit and towel. No bikinis. Girls should have their hair pulled back. I prefer braids and/or swim caps. We are on a tight schedule and girl hair often slows us down. I also would suggest, if your child does not already know how, they practice dressing for swimming and dressing afterwards. This includes drying off. Putting socks on wet feet is very challenging. Same with tights. If you would be available to help please let us know on the form we are sending home today. Permission slips and $5 for the bus are due by January 27. Please don't wait.
