Tonight's reading paper looks slightly differently. The purpose is to be able to read our spelling words and to practice fluency. Please see Monday's message about the gift exchange. Reflex Clarification--Our school has only a certain number of spaces to sign students up for Reflex. As the older students move out of Reflex the first graders move in. I will send you a paper with your child's log in information when they are moved into Reflex. Don't forget to sign and have your child return their Book It calendar for November. If you have lost it, write me a note stating your child read for 20 minutes for 20 days. You are allowed one lost calendar during the 6 months. You have already received your calendar for December and January. And as I am finishing this up (2:42 CST) the sun is shining over my shoulder!!! It is much needed after the past gloomy days! Enjoy! ________________________________________ Monday, December 2, 2019
This week we will have a spelling test over 20 words. Please do not wait to study! Instead of a gift exchange we will be helping the Knights of Columbus with their Christmas Gift Drive for the boys and girls of Gibault School in Terre Haute. Here is a list of needs: markers colored pencils crayons coloring books game books sketch pads rubik's cube silly putty playing cards hand held games mini board games shampoo deodorant and chapstick. I am sending a note home with this list included. Reflex-- Several students have started a new math program, Reflex. The purpose of Reflex is to improve math fluency. We have had great success using this program. The goal is to complete the addition and subtraction portion of the program by the end of second grade. Upon entering third grade they will work on the multiplication and division portion. Of course, if they need adjustments to these timelines we will adjust. It is always exciting to advance ahead of schedule. When your child moves into Reflex, I will send home a paper with their username and password. Please add the paper to your E Learning packet, as there will be Reflex assignments on E Learning days. Students will also be expected to work on Reflex for 20 minutes, nightly. If you have any questions, please contact me! |

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving break! I did. It is always refreshing to step back, enjoy quiet moments, and make memories with family and friends. These times carry us through the busy and rough times! Our feast went very well! I believe everyone had a good time, enjoying the company, and trying new foods. Busy we shall be these next three weeks! We will have a spelling test each of these weeks and continue our reading work. Last week we were able to start our I pad centers, working with math, reading, and social studies. It would be helpful if each student had their own set of headphones. I have some but it seems we break several each time we use them. This could be because they are old, very old. Thank you to those of you who have sent some in. First Grade does not do a Christmas gift exchange. Instead, we collect items for a local organization. I will let you know by Wednesday what that will be. |
